My email messages are not reaching the recipient. Why is this? Print

  • dkim, spf, spam
  • 1

There are a variety of reasons why an email message you send may not reach the recipient, including where the:

  1. The recipient has previously marked your message as spam or has explicitly blocked your email address
  2. The recipient's email account has no available space to store your email message
  3. The recipient uses inappropriate SPAM filtration settings
  4. Your email account does not have a valid DKIM and SPF record with us
  5. Your domain name is newly registered within the last 72 hours and is undergoing domain propagation

If points 1, 2 or 3 apply to you it is recommended you contact the recipient by other means if appropriate.

If point 5 applies to you, you should wait for 72 hours to elapse before trying to email any person while your newly registered domain name becomes recognised and accessible on the internet for all users.

In relation to point 4, DKIM is an email authentication method that uses a digital signature to let the receiver of an email know that your message was sent and authorised by the owner of a domain, while SPF records include a list of IP addresses and domains authorised to send emails from that domain. These authorisations give your domain a good reputation and increases your email deliverability.
