Safari 14.1.2 Browser Bug

If you use MacOS 10.14 Mojave and have upgraded your Safari browser to version 14.1.2 please read ahead.

At the time of this article being published, version 14.1.2 is the latest release of Safari which has been classified by Apple as a security update as per its bug fix report, dated 13th September 2021.

One unintended flaw with this update, however, is that this version of Safari contains an iCloud folder sidebar bug which prevents you from viewing and browsing any iCloud folder in the Safari file upload dialogue box.

As such, if for example you need to upload a file from an iCloud folder to social media or attach the same to a contact form you will not be able to achieve this.

The Solution

The solution is to refrain from upgrading to version 14.1.2 of the Safari browser.

If you have already upgraded your web browser, you should perform a backup of your entire Mac disk and then enter Internet Recovery Mode to revert back to the MacOS that your Mac shipped with. This will in turn downgrade Safari to a version that does not have the iCloud file viewing bug.
