Alt text, in full known as alternative text, is a piece of text that shows if the image you are using is unable to be loaded in the web browser.
It is also a means to give context and a description of the image so that search engines like Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo can better assess what search engine ranking to give it in their image search results. In this way alt text is a useful search engine optimisation tool.
To assign alt text to your images you would simply do this:-
- Login to your website editor by going to: https://blackmoonhosting.com/client
- Under the Manage your website heading type your website address and select the green button
- Now select Login with your Services account and proceed.
- Once logged into your website editor, simply click the image you want to assign alt text to.
- Select the image settings cog.
- In the Alternative text box type no more than 100 characters to describe the image. Many search engines will disregard excessively worded alt text entries. You would then click the blue Save changes button.
