It says 'Your Connection is not Private' on my website. What is this? Print

If you are seeing a 'Your Connection is not Private' message on your website this means that a technology, named SSL (or Secure Socket Layer), that is responsible for encrypting connections to and from your website has not been validated properly.

Validation can fail where your domain name has undergone DNS or Nameserver changes made by yourself or a third party administrator.

To fix this issue simply do the following:-

  • Ensure that your domain name is pointing to the nameservers we supplied in your welcome email.
  • To check which nameservers you are currently using, go to https://www.blackmoonhosting.com and select the Client login menu.
  • Under Services & Billing select the green Manage button.
  • Log into your Services account if you are not already by supply your email address and password followed by clicking the Login button.
  • Select the Domains menu and then select My Domains.
  • Select the green Active button next to the domain name of interest.
  • Now select Nameservers from the side menu and change them to the nameservers provided in your welcome email.
  • Select the blue Change Nameservers button.

 

If you needed to update your nameservers please wait 24-72 hours for this change to take effect and then complete the following steps, otherwise complete the following steps now:-

  • Go to https://www.blackmoonhosting.com and select the Client login menu.
  • Under Services & Billing select the green Manage button.
  • Select the Login to cPanel button from the left hand-side menu.
  • in cPanel search for Lets Encrypt in the search box and select Lets Encrypt from the search results.

  • Browse to the Issue a new certificate section and in the row of affected domain name select the issue link.

  • Now place a tick in the box in the column with the heading Add cPanel subdomains**?

  • For the Please Choose an SSL Validation Method, select the dns-01 option and then select the blue Issue button.

  • After a brief pause you should receive a message indicating that the signed SSL certificate has been installed.
  • It is recommended that you clear your browser cache and cookies and then try to browse to your website again. If the 'Connection is not Private' message is still there please contact us.
